Assuming you can get past the clunky design, our Razer Phone 2 review found that this device offers great value for the specifications

The Razer Phone 2 is one of the few high-end flagships you can buy this year at the sub-$1,000 price point. It's an excellent flagship choice as long as your main priority isn't the camera.

If you are looking for something special, the Razer Phone 2 will be perfect for you, and not just because of the logo.

A slight upgrade but still lacking in some key areas... This is a very enjoyable phone.

The Razer Phone 2 improves on the majority of its predecessors issues and remains the #1 smartphone choice for mobile gamers...but, man, that camera still needs improving!

The Razer Phone 2 offers a phone design and features that you can't find on other smartphones. Now that it's been updated to Android 9 and available on discount, it offers more for a price that undercuts other flagships.

The Razer Phone 2 is wonderful for playing games, but it isn't very comfortable to hold, or a great phone for taking photos. Even if you are a hard-core gamer, there are a lot of Android Phones that are just about as powerful.

The Razer Phone 2 is perfect for PUBG sessions on the go, but it gets a few basics wrong.

Much like its predecessor, the Razer Phone 2 offers up a unique proposition... If you absolutely need the highest performance in a smartphone display, this is basically your only choice.

Despite welcome changes, some important issues remain. As such, the Razer Phone 2 narrowly misses out on a recommendation.

If you wanted a Razer Phone but decided to wait for the second generation, you'll find your patience rewarded. For non-gamers, however, some compromises are unlikely to convince them to forgo the likes of Samsung and Huawei.

More than anything else, the Razer Phone 2 is a product that preaches to the already-converted...if you're a more everyday smartphone buyer looking for value, there's more to be found elsewhere, and if you're looking for the device that makes the idea of a gaming phone make sense, that too can be found elsewhere.

Unlike its predecessor, it doesn't undercut the competition in terms of price, making it a tough sell at full price for all but the most diehard mobile gamers and Razer fans.

A niche proposition has some excellent features – including fast refresh rate screen and illuminating rear logo – but a design that can't hold its own against the current crop of flagships. As a stand-out device with points of difference it's sometimes brilliant though.

The Razer Phone 2 doesn't have the camera chops to displace any of the new iPhone XS or Pixel 3 models. For a flagship phone to be taken seriously in 2018, you need a camera you can count on, and I can't count on the Phone 2's cameras. What I can count on the Razer Phone 2 for is playing games, having great battery life, and light-up, colorful Chroma. And for a phone that's primarily made for playing games, that might be enough.

The Razer Phone 2 offers good performance, excellent audio and a 120-Hz display, but the phone's camera still needs work.

If media consumption and gaming are the two main reasons you buy a phone, the Razer Phone 2 is worth taking a look at. If not, then don't even consider it because it will disappoint you.

The Razer Phone 2 is a great Android phone for gaming, but it's pretty average at everything else.

Razer has gaming down, but still can't quite master the essentials.

How HandsetExpert Works: We don't run ads on the site, or charge users to use the site. The site is funded using commission links, where we may receive a commission if a phone or tariff is purchased via HandsetExpert. Our editorial, phone scoring and recommendation system and deal-finding algorithms are not affected by this; we are fiercely committed to providing unbiased, independent information.

Important notes

  • We aim to compare as many tariffs in the marketplace from the UK as possible. However, we do not include every package (e.g. legacy tariffs no longer available, or tariffs only available to existing/specific customers), nor do we detail every aspect of every tariff (e.g. international out of bundle rates, on-network minutes, etc).
  • SIM Only deals do not include plans shorter than 30 days or Pay As You Go rates.
  • We work really hard to get accurate prices from as many providers as possible, but some deals or providers may not be included; if there’s anything we’ve missed then please get in touch and let us know.
  • Whenever we can, we will let you know if a deal is time limited (such as a flash deal), and when the deal expires.
  • For tariffs which offer "unlimited" allowances, there may be times where traffic management or fair usage policies apply.
  • Additional charges for payment methods other than direct debit and for itemised/paper billing may apply.
  • Data only SIM cards, mobile broadband packages, and pay monthly tablets are currently not included in the comparison.
  • Out of bundle charges are not included in the calculation of Average Monthly Cost.
  • Contracts may not be available for some phone models in all colours and/or sizes, and a small number may only be available either as a pay monthly contract or a contract free handset, but not both.
  • Providers may increase the cost of your contract by RPI (inflation). However, if prices are increased that then cause a materially detrimental impact, you have the right to exit your contract without penalty. More details available from Ofcom plus comparative information on customer service and complaints handling & their guide on how to complain.
  • Ofcom runs a voluntary accreditation scheme for digital comparison tools (DCTs) for telephone, broadband and pay-TV, and has confirmed that this DCT meets the criteria for accreditation. For further details about the scheme, including the criteria that DCTs must meet, visit the price comparison page on the Ofcom website.
