Expert Reviews | Nathan Spendelow

The OnePlus 6 offers significant improvements over last year's OnePlus 5T...the decision to add a Snapdragon 845 processor to a phone that costs...less than its similarly-equipped competition is a seriously smart move. Throw in a handful of camera upgrades, a refreshing new design and Android 8.1 Oreo straight out the box, and the OnePlus 6 begins to paint a familiarly appealing picture. This is a smartphone that's just as meaty as its rivals, with a not-so-outrageous price tag attached.

The new OnePlus 6 holds true to a winning formula: a premium smartphone with top-end specs that costs less than half the price of an iPhone X.

The OnePlus 6 is a killer phone and would - quite frankly - be a competitive flagship even if it was priced to match its competitors. It's not, and its starting price point make it complete no brainer.

This is one of the best Android phones on the planet right now. It looks amazing and it runs brilliantly. But best of all is the price: it's significantly cheaper than ALL of its peers. I'd take one of these handsets over the iPhone X every day. It's that good. So do yourself a favour and check it out. You will not be disappointed.

The OnePlus 6 feels grown-up, and it certainly doesn't look or feel out of place alongside the top-flight competition from the likes of Apple, Samsung and Sony. Performance is good, the screen bright and colorful, the design appealing, and there's a solid camera too.

Yeah, there are a few cut corners but you'll have to spend a lot more to get those corners back! For its price, OnePlus still has the market cornered.

The OnePlus 6 gives you nearly the same performance of top devices for a fraction of the price. That's the very definition of a good deal. If top brands aren't important to you and you'd rather save serious cash without sacrificing performance, the OnePlus 6 is a serious option to weigh.

OnePlus is hesitant to stand behind its products with a solid support policy...A series of downgrades is saved by the low price...Metal made the previous phone stand out, but now it's just another smartphone...you can flash your own updates if you want...OnePlus switched to a glass back and didn't add wireless charging, so this is a straight downgrade over last year...A smaller fingerprint reader than last year...The phone isn't waterproof.

The Verge | Dan Seifert

The OnePlus 6 is an evolution of what OnePlus has been doing since its beginning, without really breaking from that mold. There's certainly a lot to like here - attractive design, great display, reliable battery life, fast performance, and great software - and there aren't any silly, trend-chasing things such as gimmicky AI features, dedicated hardware buttons for virtual assistants, or weird squeezing interfaces that just get in the way.

OnePlus 6 definitely nearly has all that it takes to compete with other flagships in the market. The keyword here being 'nearly'...misses like water-resistance build, no wireless charging, same front-facing camera and battery. But on the brighter side you get some of the crucial features such as OIS, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, slow-motion video recording and even the gigabit LTE connectivity support.

How HandsetExpert Works: We don't run ads on the site, or charge users to use the site. The site is funded using commission links, where we may receive a commission if a phone or tariff is purchased via HandsetExpert. Our editorial, phone scoring and recommendation system and deal-finding algorithms are not affected by this; we are fiercely committed to providing unbiased, independent information.

Important notes

  • We aim to compare as many tariffs in the marketplace from the UK as possible. However, we do not include every package (e.g. legacy tariffs no longer available, or tariffs only available to existing/specific customers), nor do we detail every aspect of every tariff (e.g. international out of bundle rates, on-network minutes, etc).
  • SIM Only deals do not include plans shorter than 30 days or Pay As You Go rates.
  • We work really hard to get accurate prices from as many providers as possible, but some deals or providers may not be included; if there’s anything we’ve missed then please get in touch and let us know.
  • Whenever we can, we will let you know if a deal is time limited (such as a flash deal), and when the deal expires.
  • For tariffs which offer "unlimited" allowances, there may be times where traffic management or fair usage policies apply.
  • Additional charges for payment methods other than direct debit and for itemised/paper billing may apply.
  • Data only SIM cards, mobile broadband packages, and pay monthly tablets are currently not included in the comparison.
  • Out of bundle charges are not included in the calculation of Average Monthly Cost.
  • Contracts may not be available for some phone models in all colours and/or sizes, and a small number may only be available either as a pay monthly contract or a contract free handset, but not both.
  • Providers may increase the cost of your contract by RPI (inflation). However, if prices are increased that then cause a materially detrimental impact, you have the right to exit your contract without penalty. More details available from Ofcom plus comparative information on customer service and complaints handling & their guide on how to complain.
  • Ofcom runs a voluntary accreditation scheme for digital comparison tools (DCTs) for telephone, broadband and pay-TV, and has confirmed that this DCT meets the criteria for accreditation. For further details about the scheme, including the criteria that DCTs must meet, visit the price comparison page on the Ofcom website.
