That iffy speaker aside, this is one phone that doesn't put a foot wrong: the 6in screen is great, and performance, battery life, camera and design are all above average, too.

The Nokia 7 Plus is a well-rounded mid-range smartphone with a very capable specifications sheet, no-frills Android experience, and good-looking chassis. You'd be hard-pressed to find a flaw with this device, really.

The Nokia 7 Plus is the best mid-range smartphone I have seen in years. All of a sudden, there's now a smartphone that looks really good, is built like a tank, comes with a class-leading SoC, packs in the latest Android software with the latest updates and it all comes at a reasonable...

A lot of people have the perception that the Nokia 7 Plus is expensive. And, I'd vehemently disagree. If anything, the phone is a steal for the price. It is the perfect amalgamation of kickass hardware and dependable bug-free software.

If you can spend a bit more cash, you should definitely check out the Nokia 7 Plus. It's got a more powerful processor, capable cameras, long battery life, and most importantly, Android One software.

There is no compelling reason against it, as it checks most boxes very ably. The challenge it faces is that there is no compelling reason for it, either.

Even if it's a little predictable, not every purchase needs a twist. Sometimes you want something that works as intended, and the Nokia 7 Plus fits that mold nicely... it's got gorgeous built-quality and aesthetics, solid and consistent performance and good-but-not-great camera.

The Nokia 7 Plus finds itself in a difficult and crowded price range, but it will certainly be able to satisfy its buyers. Although it's not the most powerful device on the market and doesn't have the strongest features, this Nokia has proven to be a complete smartphones with no real weaknesses.

The Nokia 7 Plus has plenty to offer – especially when you consider it costs around half as much as a 2018 flagship device. Good battery life, pure Android and above-average optics make for a very solid middleweight contender.

We did not experience any noticeable lag while using it for light gaming like "Football Strike". However, with demanding games like "real Drift Car Racing", we needed to turn the background apps off for a smooth experience.

It is sturdy, well built, the copper accents add to the stylish looks, and is one of your last good options for a metal phone that is less likely to shatter when it hits the pavement sans a case.

To sum up, if the Nokia 7 Plus had been priced a little lower, I would have recommended it wholeheartedly. As of now though, it might not be the only option to buy in this price bracket, so you need to weigh your options before swiping the plastic.

How HandsetExpert Works: We don't run ads on the site, or charge users to use the site. The site is funded using commission links, where we may receive a commission if a phone or tariff is purchased via HandsetExpert. Our editorial, phone scoring and recommendation system and deal-finding algorithms are not affected by this; we are fiercely committed to providing unbiased, independent information.

Important notes

  • We aim to compare as many tariffs in the marketplace from the UK as possible. However, we do not include every package (e.g. legacy tariffs no longer available, or tariffs only available to existing/specific customers), nor do we detail every aspect of every tariff (e.g. international out of bundle rates, on-network minutes, etc).
  • SIM Only deals do not include plans shorter than 30 days or Pay As You Go rates.
  • We work really hard to get accurate prices from as many providers as possible, but some deals or providers may not be included; if there’s anything we’ve missed then please get in touch and let us know.
  • Whenever we can, we will let you know if a deal is time limited (such as a flash deal), and when the deal expires.
  • For tariffs which offer "unlimited" allowances, there may be times where traffic management or fair usage policies apply.
  • Additional charges for payment methods other than direct debit and for itemised/paper billing may apply.
  • Data only SIM cards, mobile broadband packages, and pay monthly tablets are currently not included in the comparison.
  • Out of bundle charges are not included in the calculation of Average Monthly Cost.
  • Contracts may not be available for some phone models in all colours and/or sizes, and a small number may only be available either as a pay monthly contract or a contract free handset, but not both.
  • Providers may increase the cost of your contract by RPI (inflation). However, if prices are increased that then cause a materially detrimental impact, you have the right to exit your contract without penalty. More details available from Ofcom plus comparative information on customer service and complaints handling & their guide on how to complain.
  • Ofcom runs a voluntary accreditation scheme for digital comparison tools (DCTs) for telephone, broadband and pay-TV, and has confirmed that this DCT meets the criteria for accreditation. For further details about the scheme, including the criteria that DCTs must meet, visit the price comparison page on the Ofcom website.
