What Mobile | Saf Malik

Overall, the Macro One plus delivers what it sets out to do – deliver a budget phone that allows users to take great close-up photographs. Whilst it achieves its main aim, delivers a great battery life and just about delivers in terms of specs it also leaves much to be desired.

The Moto One Macro has a great design, dependable battery, a good screen, nice software and a reasonable chipset. It is a very well thought-out device - but its main attraction, the macro camera, is a big let-down.

The One Macro is meant to offer good macro photography and it does that with flying colours. If you are a photography enthusiast interested in close-up photos, this is the phone you should choose.

The Motorola One Macro convinces with its pure Android, the chic exterior and the long battery life. The camera is rather average

The macro lens is great, but most everything else is just average, and performance is su-par.

Motorola's line of One phones offers clean design, elegant software, and competent performance across the board. The Motorola One Macro offers all of these things at the lowest price of them all.

The Indian Express | Shruti Dhapola

If you want to buy a stock Android phone with the option for macro photos, then the Motorola One Macro is worth considering. But otherwise Realme 5 or the Redmi Note 7S offer better overall performance considering they are priced closely.

Expert Reviews | Nathan Spendelow

In some areas, the Moto One Macro really shines, but with every single positive there's a negative. It feels cheap, the battery takes forever to charge, and the display suffers from wildly inaccurate colours. It's fun to shoot things up close, and it has a long-lasting battery, but that's about all there is to it.

The One Macro isn't a bad phone. In fact, it performed reasonably well across the board in our testing. However, it didn't really blow us away. Sadly, the screen and processor speed left us feeling fairly underwhelmed.

Pocket-lint | Mike Lowe

Really, the One Macro needs to be seen for what it is: a budget handset with a big battery life and fuss-free software. In those regards it performs well, for a long time, and it won't break the bank to get you there. But its presence feels like a bit of a gap-filler.

NDTV Gadgets | Aditya Shenoy

We would have liked the One Macro to have been a part of Google's Android One programme since it guarantees better software and security updates. Camera performance in low light could do with some improvement too. Other than that, the Motorola One Macro did not give us much to complain about.

The Motorola One Macro is a fast, clean and highly-usable phone with a nifty trademark feature and longer-than-average battery life.

Android Authority | Dhruv Bhutani

The Motorola Moto One Macro delivers the goods if fast performance and a clean software build are all you crave. However, the quality of the materials and imaging performance just don't match the high-end experiences offered by competing devices.

Motorola has pleasantly surprised me with what they have been able to do with a phone for such good value. Whilst it is by no means perfect, I would say this is probably the perfect first smartphone for a child or somebody slightly older as this would introduce them to the world of Android.

How HandsetExpert Works: We don't run ads on the site, or charge users to use the site. The site is funded using commission links, where we may receive a commission if a phone or tariff is purchased via HandsetExpert. Our editorial, phone scoring and recommendation system and deal-finding algorithms are not affected by this; we are fiercely committed to providing unbiased, independent information.

Important notes

  • We aim to compare as many tariffs in the marketplace from the UK as possible. However, we do not include every package (e.g. legacy tariffs no longer available, or tariffs only available to existing/specific customers), nor do we detail every aspect of every tariff (e.g. international out of bundle rates, on-network minutes, etc).
  • SIM Only deals do not include plans shorter than 30 days or Pay As You Go rates.
  • We work really hard to get accurate prices from as many providers as possible, but some deals or providers may not be included; if there’s anything we’ve missed then please get in touch and let us know.
  • Whenever we can, we will let you know if a deal is time limited (such as a flash deal), and when the deal expires.
  • For tariffs which offer "unlimited" allowances, there may be times where traffic management or fair usage policies apply.
  • Additional charges for payment methods other than direct debit and for itemised/paper billing may apply.
  • Data only SIM cards, mobile broadband packages, and pay monthly tablets are currently not included in the comparison.
  • Out of bundle charges are not included in the calculation of Average Monthly Cost.
  • Contracts may not be available for some phone models in all colours and/or sizes, and a small number may only be available either as a pay monthly contract or a contract free handset, but not both.
  • Providers may increase the cost of your contract by RPI (inflation). However, if prices are increased that then cause a materially detrimental impact, you have the right to exit your contract without penalty. More details available from Ofcom plus comparative information on customer service and complaints handling & their guide on how to complain.
  • Ofcom runs a voluntary accreditation scheme for digital comparison tools (DCTs) for telephone, broadband and pay-TV, and has confirmed that this DCT meets the criteria for accreditation. For further details about the scheme, including the criteria that DCTs must meet, visit the price comparison page on the Ofcom website.
