Android Headlines | Alexander Maxham

The Moto G5S Plus is a bit of an interesting smartphone. It's a "special edition" of the Moto G5 Plus that was released earlier this year, but it isn't much different. So the Moto G5S Plus is a great choice for those that don't need a ton of features like what the LG V30 provides.

We already love the Moto G5 Plus and Motorola has just super-sized it in the form of the special edition Moto G5s Plus. Packing a bigger display than before, as well as some refined design work and a new dual-lens camera, the G5s Plus is one of the best sub-£300 smartphones you can buy right now.

More metal, more screen, good battery life and a still-great price make the Moto G5S Plus one of the best affordable Androids around.

The Moto G5S Plus is an update or two away from perfection but is still our large-screen, lower price phone of choice.

The Motorola Moto G5s Plus exceeds expectations, just like its predecessor.

The Moto G5S Plus builds upon the previous G5 Plus to deliver a near-flagship-level experience for a fraction of the cost. A fantastic alternative to exceedingly expensive flagships.

The Moto G5S Plus was fun to use and I've been seriously considering picking up one for myself due to the low price and solid performance.

The Moto G5S Plus is superb value for money. It delivers serious bang for not many bucks.

Indeed, the Moto G5S Plus' only real weakness is its slightly uneven and laggy camera. If you can live with that, it's a very tempting step up from the cheap, plasticky handsets that occupy the bottom end of the Android market.

The Lenovo Moto G5S Plus once again redefines the word "budget.". The Moto G5S Plus is the best phone in its price range. If you're looking for a flagship phone with top-tier specs, then this probably won't tick all the boxes, but if you don't have much to spend, this is the one for you.

The Moto G5S Plus improves on one of our favorite bargain smartphones in several key areas, but the dual cameras could be better.

If you are a Moto fan then the Moto G5S Plus or Moto G5S should surely appeal to you as they look great and offer all the bells and whistles one expects at their prices.

Motorola is sticking to the winning formula that has worked for the company in earlier years. Stock Android, solid build quality and evolutionary upgrades in terms of hardware.

The Verge | Micah Singleton

The Moto G5S Plus is better than the G5 Plus in tangible ways but with a price jump over its predecessor, the G5S Plus probably isn't the budget king for most people if your main priority is saving a bit of money. If you want a bigger screen, the G5S Plus is the answer. For everyone else, the G5 Plus is still good enough.

phoneArena | Stephen Schenck

The Moto G5S Plus mainly exists as a slightly-larger-screened variant of the smaller Moto G5 phones, and there it succeeds. Sure, you can spend a little more on a phone like the Moto X4, or spend a lot less on a Moto E4-series handset, but this model still represents the sort of middle-of-the-road compromise that will likely resonate with a lot of shoppers.

Moto G5S Plus comes with its own set of pros and cons, but the positives of the device definitely outweigh the negatives. It has an elegant design, a good build quality and a reasonable display.

To sum up, while the G5s Plus is not a smartphone you should upgrade to if you already own the Moto G5 Plus, it's possibly worth a look if you are looking for an affordable dual-camera smartphone. That said, do take a close look at its closest rivals too before you decide.

How HandsetExpert Works: We don't run ads on the site, or charge users to use the site. The site is funded using commission links, where we may receive a commission if a phone or tariff is purchased via HandsetExpert. Our editorial, phone scoring and recommendation system and deal-finding algorithms are not affected by this; we are fiercely committed to providing unbiased, independent information.

Important notes

  • We aim to compare as many tariffs in the marketplace from the UK as possible. However, we do not include every package (e.g. legacy tariffs no longer available, or tariffs only available to existing/specific customers), nor do we detail every aspect of every tariff (e.g. international out of bundle rates, on-network minutes, etc).
  • SIM only deals are limited to 30-day and 12-month plans, excluding shorter plans and Pay As You Go rates.
  • For tariffs which offer "unlimited" allowances, there may be times where traffic management or fair usage policies apply.
  • Additional charges for payment methods other than direct debit and for itemised/paper billing may apply.
  • Data only SIM cards, mobile broadband packages, and pay monthly tablets are currently not included in the comparison.
  • Out of bundle charges are not included in the calculation of Average Monthly Cost.
  • Contracts may not be available for some phone models in all colours and/or sizes, and a small number may only be available either as a pay monthly contract or a contract free handset, but not both.
  • Providers may increase the cost of your contract by RPI (inflation). However, if prices are increased that then cause a materially detrimental impact, you have the right to exit your contract without penalty. More details available from Ofcom plus comparative information on customer service and complaints handling & their guide on how to complain.
