The Economic Times | Hitesh Raj Bhagat

The aggressive pricing is a sensible move from HTC. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a flagship device.

The HTC U11 is an excellent smartphone. But yes, there's a handful of small things the HTC U11 doesn't do as well as its rivals. However, these are small things I'd be perfectly prepared to live with. The HTC U11 is right up there with the very best smartphones around; it's a phone that should put HTC right back on the map.

What Hi-Fi?

Not the most exciting or innovative new smartphone, but decent sound and video performance mean it's one of the best of 2017.

In short, the HTC U11 is a wonderful phone that I'd recommend to anyone. The fly in the ointment? It's expensive.

The HTC U11 is exactly the kind of flagship phone that the company needed to launch in 2017. It's once again a highly enjoyable all-round experience, but feels fresh enough to stand out against earlier handsets and rival premium mobiles.

Unique features and a delectable design help the U11 stand out, but don't quite do enough to usurp Samsung's Galaxy S8 as the 2017 smartphone to beat.

Neowin | Vlad Dudau

As that price starts to climb its value proposition declines, not because the U11 isn't an excellent phone, but because the market has been flooded with more affordable, good devices lately.

It's clear that the U11 is a shining example of what a smartphone can be, and with one of the best cameras you'll find on any smartphone, also shows what a smartphone can be. It may lack the ecosystem of some of its rivals, but HTC's U11 is a solid phone we can all be proud of. Highly recommended.

There is no reason not to consider the HTC U11 if you are thinking about a new Android smartphone. This price is not much more than mid-level devices and a couple hundred less than other top tier flagships. The U11 offers more than mid-tier phones and is absolutely stunning.

Another fantastic device from HTC which will hopefully get a bit more attention this time. I'm not a fan of Google Photos, and the squeezy feature might not be overly used.

At present, the HTC U11 is the best available alternative to the Galaxy S8; it has better performance, spectacular audio quality and a fantastic camera. In terms of battery performance, it is strong but it doesn't really stand out from other premium-range smartphones.

The HTC U11 is HTC's best phone to date. Its striking and well built design, class-leading camera and super-powerful insides means it can stand among the best smartphones 2017 has to offer.

This phone is a serious contender, and it's nice to see HTC at the top of its game again. The U11 goes up against the Samsung Galaxy S8 series and OnePlus 5, all of which have at least one standout USP. Your choice comes down to whether your top priority is taking incredible photos, looking great, or saving some money.

The best smartphone camera on the market paired with a gorgeous design. After years of criticism and declining sales numbers, HTC has come back full force to deliver one of the finest smartphones you'll find this year, and quite possibly the best phone they've ever made.

The U11 is a return to form for HTC, a showcase device that displays not only the company's design chops but its intuitive thinking and high level of execution. Sure there are some annoying things about it, but taken as a whole the U11 is uniquely lovable.

With its fantastic build quality, top-of-the-line specs, and stellar camera, the U11 will tick all the right boxes for most users. The overall experience is rounded out with a rich audio experience and unique Edge Sense feature, making HTC's latest flagship a truly compelling package.

The HTC U11 is a seriously good phone. HTC has combined beautiful design, superlative build quality, thoughtful features, and a restrained customization of Android. Problem is, I suspect few will ever actually see one.

Squeeze it, don't squeeze it, the HTC U11 is an excellent phone either way. All this is enough to make the U11 a 9/10, even if the design isn't as futuristic as the Galaxy S8's and the killer new feature, Edge Sense, feels more like a gimmick than anything else, at least for now.

If the U11 doesn't sell well, it will have nothing to do with the outright quality of the phone itself. The U11 has everything it needs to be a challenger to the top crop of phones in the market today - now HTC just needs people to get to the point of giving its phones a chance again.

The HTC U11 has a great potential that we are looking forward to unlocking and testing for a longer period in the field. From our short exposure to it, and from the technical data we have gathered, the timing of its launch places HTC firmly in the high-end race of Android phones.

The HTC U11 is a great smartphone. Definitely a worthy successor to the HTC 10, and good enough to make us forget about the U Ultra. This is finally an HTC flagship that doesn't fall behind in features, even if ditching essentials like a headphone jack have been met with polarization.

The HTC U11 is somewhat of a phone unstuck in time. It's got all the processing might of any 2017 flagship. But it's also a phone that feels – and maybe more critically, looks – a little dated. When you buy the U11, it's almost as if you're saying "I want a phone that performs like a bleeding-edge flagship, but looks and feels like my last phone."

And while the U11 is a very good phone, it's by no means exceptional. We can't say that we'd prefer to own this phone instead of a Galaxy S8, and the U11 costs more, and we don't see why it should.

A really great phone which, in my view, is tarnished by Marmite design due to the mirror finish. Also somewhat lacking in the battery and display. The audio, performance, software, and camera, however, are all superb. Well worth considering and weighing up the pros and cons versus your needs and tastes.

It doesn't have many of the forward-looking features of its competition, but at its base it is a very good smartphone in a very pretty shell. If that's what you want, and you're able to get past the lack of a headphone jack and the U11's attraction to fingerprints, you won't be disappointed.

How HandsetExpert Works: We don't run ads on the site, or charge users to use the site. The site is funded using commission links, where we may receive a commission if a phone or tariff is purchased via HandsetExpert. Our editorial, phone scoring and recommendation system and deal-finding algorithms are not affected by this; we are fiercely committed to providing unbiased, independent information.

Important notes

  • We aim to compare as many tariffs in the marketplace from the UK as possible. However, we do not include every package (e.g. legacy tariffs no longer available, or tariffs only available to existing/specific customers), nor do we detail every aspect of every tariff (e.g. international out of bundle rates, on-network minutes, etc).
  • SIM Only deals do not include plans shorter than 30 days or Pay As You Go rates.
  • We work really hard to get accurate prices from as many providers as possible, but some deals or providers may not be included; if there’s anything we’ve missed then please get in touch and let us know.
  • Whenever we can, we will let you know if a deal is time limited (such as a flash deal), and when the deal expires.
  • For tariffs which offer "unlimited" allowances, there may be times where traffic management or fair usage policies apply.
  • Additional charges for payment methods other than direct debit and for itemised/paper billing may apply.
  • Data only SIM cards, mobile broadband packages, and pay monthly tablets are currently not included in the comparison.
  • Out of bundle charges are not included in the calculation of Average Monthly Cost.
  • Contracts may not be available for some phone models in all colours and/or sizes, and a small number may only be available either as a pay monthly contract or a contract free handset, but not both.
  • Providers may increase the cost of your contract by RPI (inflation). However, if prices are increased that then cause a materially detrimental impact, you have the right to exit your contract without penalty. More details available from Ofcom plus comparative information on customer service and complaints handling & their guide on how to complain.
  • Ofcom runs a voluntary accreditation scheme for digital comparison tools (DCTs) for telephone, broadband and pay-TV, and has confirmed that this DCT meets the criteria for accreditation. For further details about the scheme, including the criteria that DCTs must meet, visit the price comparison page on the Ofcom website.
