The HTC 10 is a great-looking handset with a superb screen, great performance and good – if not great – battery life. The camera, once a weak spot for HTC, can now compete with the very best of the bunch.

What Hi-Fi?

A return to form for HTC - the HTC 10 is a superb smartphone that really takes the fight to the competition.... There are no headline features, no gimmicks – this is a phone that takes the core functionality of a smartphone and really nails it, not to mention offers an excellent audio and video experience.

The HTC 10 is an excellent top-end smartphone. It feels snappy, bloat free and optimised. The cameras are great, the battery life is above average and the screen is good... It's a no-frills, top-end smartphone that gets everything more or less right. HTC has finally nailed a good all-rounder.

A tale of all-round accomplishment, the HTC 10 is an Android device for smartphone purists... If you want a smartphone for the future, then don't get the HTC 10. If you want a smartphone for right now, there are few better alternatives.

The HTC 10 is a must look at flagship smartphone for 2016. The company seems to have looked at some of their mistakes and taken to heart some of the criticism and produced an extraordinary smartphone.

TechRadar | Gareth Beavis

The HTC 10 is a phone that promised so much but only partly delivers... I can't really criticise it too much as it's hit the marks that a top smartphone should: loads of power, upgraded battery, improved camera and changed design... The 10 is a phone that's technically very able but doesn't offer a massive wow factor - and for the high-end price it commands, it really should.

This is the handset HTC needed to make. It does everything the other big players do and even surpasses them in some regards; battery performance, for instance. Personally, I do prefer the LG G5 - but I REALLY do love that phone. Still, for those committed to the HTC brand, the HTC 10 is a big turn out for the books.

The 10 is HTC's finest phone. It may be more evolutionary than revolutionary, but it evolved in all the right directions. (...) If you're in the market for a high-end flagship, the HTC 10 is an excellent choice.

Its solid, all-metal body, quick performance, and fast fingerprint scanner make for an elegant experience.... The unlocked HTC 10 is the best Android phone for audiophiles and it offers plenty for everyone else too. This could be HTC's big comeback.

This cut-through-the-nonsense approach is seriously a breath of fresh air, and a departure from the cookie-cutter Android mentality of the day. And as paradoxical as it may come across as, the HTC 10's lack of 'innovative' features is the basis of its allure for us.

t's not the best phone of the year, but it's not far off. Yet, it's the phone I would want to use. That might sound strange, but hear me out. From the lovely screen to the speedy performance to the fantastic representation of Android, the HTC 10 ticks all the boxes.

Whether it is the sleek, yet satisfying metal chassis, the sheer processing power you can almost feel under your finger, the surprising battery life performance or even the competitive camera, HTC has once again found its mojo and is showing off on the smartphone dance floor. It may be pricey, but you pay for quality and this is definitely a high-end competitor.

The HTC 10 is a solid all-round package, a phone that has few weaknesses and certainly doesn't disappoint like last year's... Media fans will love the gorgeous screen, BoomSound speakers and Hi-res audio support, while the funky Freestyle desktops give Android a fresh new look and feel that's well overdue.

It's not a perfect phone despite HTC's "10 is about perfection" tag line, and it won't be the best phone for everyone. As a total package, however, the HTC 10 is right up there with the best in the business.

This is a great phone, it really is. For those wishing to share pictures via social media, grab selfies with friends, and have a power house of a device with a battery that lasts as long as other current generation devices, the HTC 10 really does equate to a stellar option.

I was confident with it. I knew it would perform. I knew it would work faultlessly and it would charge quickly when needed. It would take great snaps and great video too... [but] people are becoming aware that a phone shouldn't have to cost £550-£700, and there's less and less that smartphone makers can do to validate that high price point.

The HTC 10 is an incredibly well-built device, with top-tier horsepower and -- crucially -- software that doesn't drive me up a wall. The company has also upped its camera game considerably, though the results still fall short of some competitors. Sure, I wish the battery life were a little better, but it's not a deal-breaker.

The HTC 10 is a return to form for the company and a worthy flagship. They've thought about pretty much everything that a flagship needs and is only let down by a lack of waterproofing. With incredible audio output and a solid front camera that has OIS, it has enough unique selling points to make it stand out from the competition. In other words, it's a winner.

The main drawback to the HTC 10 is the camera, I'm sad to say... The rest of the device is just a dream to use. HTC has refined its Sense UI to where it's lacking the junk that we're so familiar with from third-party Android skins. The Super LCD5 display makes that UI look incredible.

Given that the competition stepped up its game this year, the HTC 10 smartphone cannot fairly be called the best flagship on the market. Taking into account all its features and flourishes reveals that it's close though, and much closer than it was at this point in 2015.

The HTC 10 is a really good phone, even if it's not a perfect one. I especially love the new personalized audio profiles, while solid performance and an improved rear camera add to the device's appeal. The HTC 10 is hands down the best phone HTC has ever made, and is quite honestly one of the most perfect devices on the market. Being almost perfect of course means there are still issues, but many are so minor you'll forget about them the second you actually start using the phone.

The HTC 10 is a brilliant all-rounder, and a commendable return to past triumphs for HTC after a few wrong turns. The HTC 10 is a brilliant device, and one well worth buying. It's not quite the perfect 10 though... Sure, its camera might still lack a bit of next-level charm, but elsewhere, namely its interface, the HTC 10 is without rival. It's the overall package more than individual features that make this phone such a success though.

The HTC 10 certainly puts in a star turn with its hi-fi audio, but it doesn't do enough to raise its head above the parapet.... Get the HTC 10 if you want a phone that delivers great audio. For all your other needs, look elsewhere.... Despite the HTC 10 being a solid device, it simply doesn't have enough to carry it over the top. So unless you're a diehard music lover, skip the 10 for something better.

I have nothing bad to say about the HTC 10, but it's also a little disappointing HTC didn't try anything we haven't seen before. This is a comfortable, safe release-a very good one at that-but it doesn't further HTC's cause.

How HandsetExpert Works: We don't run ads on the site, or charge users to use the site. The site is funded using commission links, where we may receive a commission if a phone or tariff is purchased via HandsetExpert. Our editorial, phone scoring and recommendation system and deal-finding algorithms are not affected by this; we are fiercely committed to providing unbiased, independent information.

Important notes

  • We aim to compare as many tariffs in the marketplace from the UK as possible. However, we do not include every package (e.g. legacy tariffs no longer available, or tariffs only available to existing/specific customers), nor do we detail every aspect of every tariff (e.g. international out of bundle rates, on-network minutes, etc).
  • SIM Only deals do not include plans shorter than 30 days or Pay As You Go rates.
  • We work really hard to get accurate prices from as many providers as possible, but some deals or providers may not be included; if there’s anything we’ve missed then please get in touch and let us know.
  • Whenever we can, we will let you know if a deal is time limited (such as a flash deal), and when the deal expires.
  • For tariffs which offer "unlimited" allowances, there may be times where traffic management or fair usage policies apply.
  • Additional charges for payment methods other than direct debit and for itemised/paper billing may apply.
  • Data only SIM cards, mobile broadband packages, and pay monthly tablets are currently not included in the comparison.
  • Out of bundle charges are not included in the calculation of Average Monthly Cost.
  • Contracts may not be available for some phone models in all colours and/or sizes, and a small number may only be available either as a pay monthly contract or a contract free handset, but not both.
  • Providers may increase the cost of your contract by RPI (inflation). However, if prices are increased that then cause a materially detrimental impact, you have the right to exit your contract without penalty. More details available from Ofcom plus comparative information on customer service and complaints handling & their guide on how to complain.
  • Ofcom runs a voluntary accreditation scheme for digital comparison tools (DCTs) for telephone, broadband and pay-TV, and has confirmed that this DCT meets the criteria for accreditation. For further details about the scheme, including the criteria that DCTs must meet, visit the price comparison page on the Ofcom website.
