IT PRO | Nathan Spendelow

Honor has created a fantastically capable budget smartphone in the 6X at a very tempting price, and it's impossible not to recommend it... What's really impressive about the Honor 6X is that it holds firm against smartphones that cost twice

It's an excellent, good-looking handset that's a pleasure to use, and for the price Honor has hit, it's an easy recommendation. Put it on your shortlist.

Its design, camera quality and performance are great for the money, and battery life isn't bad either.

The price tag means this is a crowded market, but when you have the solid performance, stellar battery life, great camera and more the 6X takes it away. You can find devices with better cameras, or better screen, or better performance , but finding one that has all of them at a similar price to the 6X is where it gets difficult.

Good and affordable. Although Honor's 6X does not cost much, it is a serious competition for considerably more expensive smartphones in terms of configuration and performance. Honor's 6X combines its low price with a configuration that is almost worthy of the premium class.

Huawei's Honor 6X is one of the best bets you can get at this price. The dual-camera set up at the back helps the phone stand out against others whereas the performance is not an issue as well.

For its price, the Honor 6X is a value: good display, excellent battery life, solid overall performance with everyday use.

Overall I was very impressed with the amount of smartphone you can get for your money, for a third of the iPhone 7, in terms of features and battery life. A whole lot of smartphone for a small price. However, there was just a little too much phone in terms of size which I found impractical for my small hands.

It's double vision for Honor's latest mid-ranger, but the price is still right. A solid budget phone that could just do with a little more graphics power.

The Honor 6X still has plenty of flaws, the biggest being EMUI and the camera, but even at that low price those annoyances can be overlooked. The premium build found on this phone is excellent, and certainly makes it one of the best looking phones for it's price tag.

The Inquirer | Holly Brockwell

The 6X very much lives up to the expectations of an Honor phone: a surprisingly inexpensive but feature-packed handset with a couple of little extras thrown in, namely the dual camera and smart fingerprint sensor. It's not a flagship replacement, but if you're in the market for something that'll keep you connected without breaking the bank - and looking good - the Honor 6X is a great choice for your new phone.

Mobile Choice | Sunetra Chakravarti

The 6X is a good phone but not a great one. The problem it faces is that there is a glut of excellent choices for the consumer in the market, some cheaper than it... The dual lens camera on a budget phone is all very well but if you are ultimately taking pictures for social media then the ability to do this is a tap away on Instagram.

The Honor 6X is an outstanding Android smartphone and is tough to beat at the low price. If I didn't write about phones for a job, I think I could honestly do all I needed with the Honor 6X.

The Guardian | Samuel Gibbs

The Honor 6X is another excellent reasonably-priced smartphone from Huawei and is yet again a lot of smartphone for the money. It has a great camera, good build, dual-Sim and microSD card support, a snappy processor, a decent screen and good battery life. But it has an old version of Android without the latest security updates, an inferior version of Huawei's EMUI and microUSB not USB-C.

The Honor 6X goes all in on value, giving you dual rear cameras, a fingerprint sensor and other features usually reserved for higher-priced phones... Sporting a mostly metal design, a fingerprint reader and nifty dual-rear cameras, the Honor 6X has features that you used to be able to find only on phones twice this price.

The Honor 6X is a timely update on 2016's phone with a great design, feature-rich user and camera interfaces, dependable battery life and respectable performance, all for a low price tag.

Huawei's new Honor 6X is a lot of smartphone for very little overall cost.

Honor does a lot right with the 6X. The phone's attractive, while not being particularly flashy, offers some solid hardware for casual usage without getting weighed down by too many extraneous bells and whistles, and runs software that, while it's getting a little old, is all kinds of functional and customizable.

Neowin | Timi Cantisano

Honor could have phoned it in on the design and materials, kept it simple, and priced it in the same range or even lower than its previous model. In reality, it decided to up the ante on its "budget" line to increase the pressure on its competition and also improve the experience for its consumers. The device offers great construction, good performance, long battery life, a dual camera that can take good photos.

As this is still a great smartphone from the Honor brand, and definitely a great successor to the predecessor that the company launched last year and did extremely well with. Sure it could be a bit better in a few areas, but those areas won't stop most people from buying this device.

The Honor 6X is yet another dependable option to consider, just like its predecessor. However, it doesn't really offer any standout feature that would make you want to rush out and buy it... The dual-camera setup feels gimmicky and unnecessary, and low-light performance could have been much better.

The Honor 6X is a bit uneven. There are things that stand out in both the "Pro" and "Con" columns, which means you're sacrificing something either way you look at it.

I suspect those who focus on photography – no pun intended – might find the Honor 6X over-promises and under-delivers. Dual-cameras may not be common on budget devices, but it seems that's for a good reason, at least for the moment. Concentrate instead on the overall package, though, and the low-cost charms of the 6X may very well have you wondering why you'd spend more to tick the smartphone boxes.

The 6X is a fine phone that doesn't really use what it has very well. It will get the job done – but nothing more.

How HandsetExpert Works: We don't run ads on the site, or charge users to use the site. The site is funded using commission links, where we may receive a commission if a phone or tariff is purchased via HandsetExpert. Our editorial, phone scoring and recommendation system and deal-finding algorithms are not affected by this; we are fiercely committed to providing unbiased, independent information.

Important notes

  • We aim to compare as many tariffs in the marketplace from the UK as possible. However, we do not include every package (e.g. legacy tariffs no longer available, or tariffs only available to existing/specific customers), nor do we detail every aspect of every tariff (e.g. international out of bundle rates, on-network minutes, etc).
  • SIM Only deals do not include plans shorter than 30 days or Pay As You Go rates.
  • We work really hard to get accurate prices from as many providers as possible, but some deals or providers may not be included; if there’s anything we’ve missed then please get in touch and let us know.
  • Whenever we can, we will let you know if a deal is time limited (such as a flash deal), and when the deal expires.
  • For tariffs which offer "unlimited" allowances, there may be times where traffic management or fair usage policies apply.
  • Additional charges for payment methods other than direct debit and for itemised/paper billing may apply.
  • Data only SIM cards, mobile broadband packages, and pay monthly tablets are currently not included in the comparison.
  • Out of bundle charges are not included in the calculation of Average Monthly Cost.
  • Contracts may not be available for some phone models in all colours and/or sizes, and a small number may only be available either as a pay monthly contract or a contract free handset, but not both.
  • Providers may increase the cost of your contract by RPI (inflation). However, if prices are increased that then cause a materially detrimental impact, you have the right to exit your contract without penalty. More details available from Ofcom plus comparative information on customer service and complaints handling & their guide on how to complain.
  • Ofcom runs a voluntary accreditation scheme for digital comparison tools (DCTs) for telephone, broadband and pay-TV, and has confirmed that this DCT meets the criteria for accreditation. For further details about the scheme, including the criteria that DCTs must meet, visit the price comparison page on the Ofcom website.
