What Mobile | Stephen Watson

... if you consider the camera as the most important aspect of buying a phone this is one for you.

The Honor 20 Pro looks, feels and runs like a premium smartphone, but without the polish or the hype - and, most importantly, without the price tag. It's a slick and powerful mid-range smartphone that will give its competitors a run for their money.

... the large storage configuration gives the Honor 20 Pro an edge in terms of price/performance and makes the lack of microSD support slightly less painful. Another strength of the phone is its very precise GPS.

I feel that for this reason the more sensible choice is the cheaper but by no means inferior Honor 20. The exception to that rule is if you need a high performing camera phone without the high price ticket, then you would be best served with the Honor 20 Pro.

The Honor 20 Pro is intrinsically a superb phone with barely anything letting us down. Sadly, its retail price makes it hard to compete with devices - unless you absolutely need 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage.

With the Honor 20 series, Honor has stepped a bit farther out from Huawei's shadow to create something marvellous.

What we have here is a handset that has been built to a price, which means priorities have to be decided. Going with 'camera' and 'gaming' reaches two of the largest demographics of the smartphone market. If those aren't your areas of concern you're probably better off looking at the Honor 20 which has a significant price advantage over the 20 Pro.

The fact that it has a beautiful and unique design is definitely something that matters. When you pull out your phone, you want to feel good about it, and you want others to see it as well. With great battery life, performance, and a solid camera

he Honor 20 Pro performs very well at its price point and achieves the goal of providing excellent photographic capabilities. Overall, the Honor 20 Pro camera is vastly superior to the iPhone Xs camera, thanks to its low-light performance, high-powered zoom, and ultrawide versatility.

The smartphone offers a remarkable everyday user experience with very good performance, endurance and photo quality that is more than acceptable overall. All of this in a compact and elegant case.

The Honor 20 Pro might lure you away from more expensive Android phones with its premium camera and midrange price, though it omits some of the expected bells and whistles.

The Honor 20 Pro offers a lot of camera, getting you closer to the action and with a greater versatility than some phones that cost twice as much.

What other phone is going to offer three (out of the four) decent cameras in a striking design such as this? Once again Honor has shown its strength by numbers - and while the Pro isn't perfect, as an affordable flagship it's got a whole lot going for it.

Stuff | Andrew Williams

The Honor 20 Pro is easy to love. It lasts for ages between charges, the cameras are about as fun to use as Android cameras get and it doesn't cost too much considering what's inside.

Wired UK | Andrew Williams

Strip out the parts designed to attract attention and the Honor 20 Pro should be a sure-fire hit. Its screen is bold, battery life is excellent, and the main three cameras are a joy to use. This phone is sunk, though. The prospect of losing access to Android updates, and perhaps even core Google services, is enough to make us recommend any phone but this one.

Expert Reviews | Christopher Minasians

The Honor 20 Pro has four rear-facing cameras, an in-display selfie camera and a blistering processor – but it's uninspiring...It's a perfectly good phone, don't get me wrong – it just isn't a great one. It has no 3.5mm headphone jack, has a sub-par display, omits dust and water resistance and wireless charging, and lacks the wow factor of its predecessor. The biggest disappointment, however, is the camera, which should have been the star of the show but turns out to be deeply flawed.

How HandsetExpert Works: We don't run ads on the site, or charge users to use the site. The site is funded using commission links, where we may receive a commission if a phone or tariff is purchased via HandsetExpert. Our editorial, phone scoring and recommendation system and deal-finding algorithms are not affected by this; we are fiercely committed to providing unbiased, independent information.

Important notes

  • We aim to compare as many tariffs in the marketplace from the UK as possible. However, we do not include every package (e.g. legacy tariffs no longer available, or tariffs only available to existing/specific customers), nor do we detail every aspect of every tariff (e.g. international out of bundle rates, on-network minutes, etc).
  • SIM only deals are limited to 30-day and 12-month plans, excluding shorter plans and Pay As You Go rates.
  • For tariffs which offer "unlimited" allowances, there may be times where traffic management or fair usage policies apply.
  • Additional charges for payment methods other than direct debit and for itemised/paper billing may apply.
  • Data only SIM cards, mobile broadband packages, and pay monthly tablets are currently not included in the comparison.
  • Out of bundle charges are not included in the calculation of Average Monthly Cost.
  • Contracts may not be available for some phone models in all colours and/or sizes, and a small number may only be available either as a pay monthly contract or a contract free handset, but not both.
  • Providers may increase the cost of your contract by RPI (inflation). However, if prices are increased that then cause a materially detrimental impact, you have the right to exit your contract without penalty. More details available from Ofcom plus comparative information on customer service and complaints handling & their guide on how to complain.
