S21

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is a smaller version of the top-selling Galaxy S4. Superslim and ultra lightweight, we'd rate it as the best Android phone you can get of its size.

Solid battery performance, brilliant sound quality and a really nice form factor make it lovely to use.

We will say this: the HTC One Mini is a better phone that's available for a very similar price at the moment. Its metal unibody, Ultrapixel camera and Boomsound speakers do exactly what its bigger brother does to the S4: prove that getting the basics right is what matters.

The smartphone is also equipped with a ton of features and transmits over almost every thinkable module. Its manufacturing quality and feel are very good, despite its plastic case

Yet another stunning handset from Samsung, with enough tricks and gear to keep you happy for a long, long time.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini is a remarkable mid-range smartphone that brings power and portability under one roof. It is fast, responsive, and surprisingly capable, but at the same time it is easy to operate and fits perfectly in pockets of any size

Which?

As a cheaper and smaller version of the S4, the Mini is easy to recommend, if only for its ease of use, long battery life and perky performance. [subscription required for full access to review]

If you can live with the limited storage space, the HTC One mini is the classier-looking of the two handsets, but overall, the S4 Mini clinches victory by the narrowest of margins.

The S4 Mini is unquestionably the budget option, offering a mid-range handset that emulates its more expensive sibling in terms of pure appearance, if not technical specifications.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini was a perfectly competent mid-range smartphone, and its excellent battery life is still impressive . However, even at a new, much lower price, it's still outgunned by newer budget handsets.

The Galaxy S4 Mini is a huge improvement over the GS3 Mini! With a responsive interface, versatile multimedia functions and longer battery life than the competition, it's almost a slam dunk.

International Business Times | Alistair Charlton

I'm trying to say is you shouldn't discredit the S4 Mini because it's name and size mean it must be worse than the regular S4, because if what you want is a smaller phone, then aside from the camera and storage (the latter being easily fixed with a micro-SD card) there are no drawbacks.

The Inquirer | Carly Page

...during our time with the phone the Galaxy S4 Mini proved to be a decent, well performing mid-range smartphone, and possibly more suited to a high-end label given its specifications. The handset's screen is on a par with those of some high-end smartphones on the market, and its battery outperforms those in most handsets with much higher prices.

The Galaxy S4 mini is a great mid-range option, offering the same styling - which includes the same mediocre build quality - as its flagship counterpart, with a cheaper price tag. The cameras are good but the screen and storage are both under par.

If you're tempted by the original Samsung Galaxy S 4 but you're put off by the unwieldy design, the fact that you can comfortably use this phone one-handed should be a real turn-on.

...It's a solid, well-specced midrange handset, even if its main S4 legacy is a price that's a little on the high side.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is a solid mid-range device, but you can buy similar phones for less -- or better ones for not much more.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is the S4 without some of the frills. The specs are good, but not ground-breaking. In terms of the whole package though, it's the among the best 4.3-inch Android smartphones to buy right now.

SlashGear | Brittany Hillen

The GALAXY S 4 Mini is a wonderful little cell phone, and is surprisingly reminiscent of the older Galaxy S 2, though bringing with it all the trimmings of a newer device. If you're in the market for a small smartphone that doesn't drag poor performance and low-end specs along with it, the GALAXY S 4 Mini is a solid choice.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini is doing most things right. It's probably not everyone's dream version of a flagship in miniature but definitely closer than the S III mini got last year. It's by no means a super-mini but one that can be a pleasant ride.

A smaller version of the current flagship, the Galaxy S4, makes a lot of sense for Samsung to put on the market. It is more compact, easier to handle and more affordable for most people.

Samsung's Galaxy S4 is one of the must-have smartphones of the moment, and it is no surprise that the Galaxy S4 Mini has been launched. It is not, though, a complete mirror of the full-size handset, and while you won't find another small format phone that can match this one for gesture support, that's not all that matters.

...if you're after the Samsung Galaxy experience at a more affordable (though still relatively high) price point, then the Galaxy S4 Mini is spot on. Apart from this though, if you are simply after a cheaper handset, particularly Android based, there are plenty of other options well worth looking at.

While the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini doesn't have the same impressive lineup of specs as its illustrious relative, it still packs plenty of power and a decent screen into a very comfortable little body. It's just a shame it's so expensive.

Phone Scoop | Eric M. Zeman

The biggest disappointment to me is the screen... The rest of the hardware looks good and functions well. Voice calls are generally good, signal performance was adequate, and battery life delivers a day's worth of use... Bottom line it's a smaller, more user-friendly handset that isn't quite the flagship it pretends to be.

Samsung's Galaxy S4 Mini is a decent mid-range Android phone for those who like iPhone-like screen sizes. But unless you're wedded to the idea of a subsidized phone, there are cheaper options that deliver better performance.

How HandsetExpert Works: We don't run ads on the site, or charge users to use the site. The site is funded using commission links, where we may receive a commission if a phone or tariff is purchased via HandsetExpert. Our editorial, phone scoring and recommendation system and deal-finding algorithms are not affected by this; we are fiercely committed to providing unbiased, independent information.

Important notes

  • We aim to compare as many tariffs in the marketplace from the UK as possible. However, we do not include every package (e.g. legacy tariffs no longer available, or tariffs only available to existing/specific customers), nor do we detail every aspect of every tariff (e.g. international out of bundle rates, on-network minutes, etc).
  • SIM Only deals do not include plans shorter than 30 days or Pay As You Go rates.
  • We work really hard to get accurate prices from as many providers as possible, but some deals or providers may not be included; if there’s anything we’ve missed then please get in touch and let us know.
  • Whenever we can, we will let you know if a deal is time limited (such as a flash deal), and when the deal expires.
  • For tariffs which offer "unlimited" allowances, there may be times where traffic management or fair usage policies apply.
  • Additional charges for payment methods other than direct debit and for itemised/paper billing may apply.
  • Data only SIM cards, mobile broadband packages, and pay monthly tablets are currently not included in the comparison.
  • Out of bundle charges are not included in the calculation of Average Monthly Cost.
  • Contracts may not be available for some phone models in all colours and/or sizes, and a small number may only be available either as a pay monthly contract or a contract free handset, but not both.
  • Providers may increase the cost of your contract by RPI (inflation). However, if prices are increased that then cause a materially detrimental impact, you have the right to exit your contract without penalty. More details available from Ofcom plus comparative information on customer service and complaints handling & their guide on how to complain.
  • Ofcom runs a voluntary accreditation scheme for digital comparison tools (DCTs) for telephone, broadband and pay-TV, and has confirmed that this DCT meets the criteria for accreditation. For further details about the scheme, including the criteria that DCTs must meet, visit the price comparison page on the Ofcom website.
